We caught up with influencer Katey Hayward to get her take on body positivity and plus size fashion. The Manchester born blogger has amassed a devoted following of fellow fashion lovers, who come for the styling tips and stay for Kateys warmth and ‘elder emo big sister energy’. Here’s Kateys take…

What inspired you to become an influencer?

I didn’t actually intend to become an influencer, I started my instagram fashion page as a bit of a hobby to show other people my size that you can wear what you want and feel good. I think followers have just come with time but its really cool that I have people that enjoy what I post.

What does self-love look like to you?

Wearing an outfit you feel good in, no negative body talk, finding parts of yourself that you love, self care days & doing things you love without caring what people think.

What’s your favourite thing about you?

I like my silly sense of humour, even if I don’t make others laugh, I make myself laugh!

Who inspires you and or your style?

I find a lot of inspiration from my younger emo self, I like to wear things that I think younger me would think ‘wow she's cool!’ [katey laughs].

What’s the best piece of advice you can give to someone to feel more confident?

I always feel more confident when I’ve got a cool outfit on so my best piece of advice is to find an outfit that you love and feel good in. Experiment with styles too.

What is a common misconception about plus-size fashion?

A common misconception is that it has to all be ‘flattering’, I think you should be able to wear whatever you want!

What do you do on bad body image days to help lift yourself out it?

I give myself time and try to work out exactly why I feel the way I do. I know a lot of it is in my head so I try to look after myself mentally on days like I don't feel great. Talking to my friends about how I feel really helps too as they’re supportive and also understand!

What is your go-to outfit?

Smock dress, chunky boots and a leather jacket!

How would you describe your style?

Elder emo [katey laughs]
