Last month Sports Illustrated showcased their first ever swimwear collection at the prestigious Swim Miami show, a platform for designers to show off their collections to the media, influencers, buyers and celebs.

Described as ‘the premier destination for swimwear industry insiders to mix and mingle’, Swim Miami is always a hot ticket, but the Sports Illustrated runway show definitely sent temperatures soaring!

That’s because the models on said runway were actual real women, selected after Sports Illustrated held its first open casting call in May.

The publication was inundated with thousands of Instagram submissions from around the world and invited 35 women to its Brooklyn offices for an in-person interview and photo shoot.

The selection was further narrowed down to 15, who all took the runway by storm. They will now go on to compete to appear in the 2018 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

We love the inclusion of more diverse body types in any runway show, and hope this, along with Ashley Grahams historic cover shoot, signals the start of a new direction for swimwear modelling.
